Nicolas Depetris
Hello there.
I was born in Nice in 1984. I spent my childhood learning music and discipline to become a pianist. Meanwhile, I began to watch a large amount of movies, starting at the age of 4 with 2001 a Space Odyssey, which was quite a shocking experience. I know the meaning of hard work. Very early, I was hooked by the complexity of diegetic universes, the storytelling power, filmmaking potential, actors multiplicity. As a child, I identified myself as movie characters.
I'm also a painter and I exhibited my work in UK, Japan, France, Germany and Monaco.
In 2005, I decided to audition for the Guildhall School of London. I prepared a Mercutio and a Sarah Kane monologue and I found a full time job to pay all expenses. I learned a lot by working and acting in another language than my mother tongue.
In 2006, I moved to Paris and I was lucky enough to meet the late Jean Laurent Cochet, who became my acting teacher and mentor. I followed his 6/7 days training between 2009 and 2011, which allowed me to discover the French theater classics.
I spent two years in Fukuoka (Japan), where I followed a workshop about Kabuki with Kazutaro Nakanura. I also discovered the art of Noh and Kyogen, which are part of traditional Japanese theater. During this period, I followed Kenpo training, which is a Japanese martial art.
From 2018, I spent 30 months in Berlin, where I was trained by Andre Bolouri with the Meisner technique. I experienced working with international crews on short movies and independent features films.
I wrote and directed six short movies with my wife Chikako Kiyohara, who is a professional photographer.
I’m now based in Menton, France, and I'm frequently moving to Fukuoka, Paris and New York to develop artistic projects.
